Fireplace Makeover
Happy Saturday! Today I wanted to give you a brief update on my fireplace makeover!
I knew when we were looking at the house that something HAD to be done about the fireplace...but I really wasn't sure what. So I thought maybe I should try to whitewash it? Or paint it? What color? The decisions were endless...so dramatic :) So I started off by whitewashing it and it was a total bust. Here is a picture (And a really messy room #reallife).
Then I decided ummm no. Time to paint it. I tossed around a few different colors and ended up on my trim color throughout the rest of the house. Cream Delight by Valspar (Satin-Reserve Line). First, painting a fireplace takes some SERIOUS elbow grease. Like so much elbow grease. I complained to my husband for days about my shoulders hurting ...haha but seriously! However, the end result looks fantastic and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
So the shelves. I really wanted built-ins without building built-ins. Since we are only going to be in this house for a couple more years I didn't want to break the bank when it came to built-ins. That's when I opted for modified floating shelves. I went to the store bought 1 piece of sanded plywood ($30), 2- 1x4x8 common boards ($10), 1 package of wood screws. They ripped it down for me in 9 1/2" stripes. I cut & assembled the shelves when I got home. Attached the frame to the wall first (attach frame to the studs). Stained the shelf, attached the shelf to the frame using wood screws.
Finally, I added crown molding to the top of the fireplace to give it a more "finished" look.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!
Erin
